Imprinted at London By Robert Barker, Printed to the Kings most Excellent Majesty, and By the Assignes of John Bill, 1634. . 4to.898pp [Of 904, lacking three leaves, the final 3 leaves of Revalation, else complete with both General and New Testament Title pages, collated and with signatures A-8, A-Z8, Aa-Zz8, Aaa-Kkk8, Lll1 - lacking. Preceded by a contemporary and incomplete edition of the Book of Common Prayer, lacking all before B3, and also B8, with leaves B3-7, C-G8, H-6. Bound in contemporary blind decorated sheep, worn and rubbed with loss to extremities and boards. As with many Bibles of this age, with various previous owner's signatures, annotations etc. Marking, soiling and staining to many leaves, occasional loss to margins, the odd small hole to text, some paper repairs to text. Some worming, mostly marginal. Top corner of title torn away (touching the beautifully engraved woodcut border), with further marginal loss at base. Incisions to Ff4-5, without loss of text. Tears to Oo3-5 with loss of text, Oo5 top corner torn away. Tear to Ccc5. Leaves Kkk8 and Lll1 detached, with some chipping to extremities. A.S. A scarce edition, with English Short-Title Catalogue (Online) listing only 7 locations, only 3 of which in North America - a rare and significant copy of the DEFINITIVE ANGLICAN TEXT OF THE REFORMATION. The lengthy wording of the title-page was unvarying. Every Bible opened with the standard preface to James I, 'To the Most High and Mighty Prince James...', beginning 'Great and manifold were the blessings...' The text of the Bible was arranged in strict convention. It was generally laid out in two columns, with separate numbered verses. Each chapter opened with a short summar of its content.
