LUMBER MILL Logging/Timber Handwritten Journal Ledger Picture(s) and Description:
FANTASTIC, ORIGINAL MID-1800'S LUMBER MILL LEDGER. This terrific 19th century ledger contains a detailed account of mill operations from approx 1846 to 1856. Various operations performed at the mill are recorded along with the associated financial transactions. Sawing cuts made [planks, wagon stock, rafters, boards, joists, slabs, etc], types of wood used [oak, chestnut, maple, ash, pine, etc], services performed [oxen transport, labor of digging well], etc. Also included are the names of customers serviced over a ten year period. We believe mill was located in Massachusetts and possibly operated by the Pope family. Ledger was printed in Waltham and there is a reference to a trip made to Hopkinton. An exceptional look into the workings of an early American lumber mill. All in all, this desirable treatise remains very presentable. Ledger contains 190 hand numbered pages; and measures approx 16" tall x 7" wide x 1" thick.
