What makes this book a treasure is this edition commented by Alessandro Velutello, almost impossible to find, and the big and nice woodcuts. One of them represents the map of the region of Avignon, a full page map where that shows the place where Petrarch fell in love with Madonna Laura (whose story is also told in this volume). There are five beautiful big woodcuts representing every triumpho adorning the triumphi chapter (see pictures). The book is also adorned with more than 50 big woodcut capital letters showing different scenes.

The entire title of this early volume is "Sonetti e canzoni del divino poeta M. Francesco Petrarca, colla espositione di M. Alessandro Velutello".

Unfortunately the cover page has been removed. Still, the rest of the book is in perfect condition, from the beginning to the end. It has been professionally restored. It hasn't got any wormhole nor any trimmed pages or browning. Is in perfect condition. It includes the whole index from the beginning to the end without any damage.

What makes this volume very rare to find and therefore that attractive is:

1. 1547 edition, with Alessandro Vellutello's comments.

2. One full page woodcut, plus 5 big woodcuts for the triumphi (based in 1508 Gregorio edition), plus many beautiful woodcut capital letters throughout the text.

3. Complete book in great condition from the beginning to the end.

4. Based on the 1472 edition printed in Padua, with Petrarca's own manuscript.

5. Extremely rare edition, almost impossible to find anywhere.

6. Beautifully printed with the comments next to the sonets, and the combination of types of letters.

This is a very attractive copy of this rare book, printed in octavo, with its 215 leaves (430 pages), adorned with engraved initials and woodcut illustrations, 20cm x 15cm, printed in Roman type with the complete text of Petrarch surrounded by the commentaries of Alessandro Velutello.

Please, have a look at the pictures to understand the condition of this treasure.

I will ship worldwide. Shipping costs depend on the country. Aprox. shipping costs: Europe $20, USA & Canada $25, rest of the world $35.
