An interesting & comprehensive encyclopedia of information for the home, based on 105 years ago... in the year 1905. Many recipes, toilet facts (interesting, lol), menus, dinner parties, table etiquette as well as care of the sick or infirmed or health suggestions. What makes this cookbook "over the top special" is there are hand written notes re: long ago lintements, recipes from "friends" and other clippings of prize recipes from the neighborhood paper from the Detroit area, including Winter Conserve. There are other clippings glued to blank pages, that make you feel you were right in the kitchen with the beloved, original owner of this book. For the cookbook collector, this is a wonderful find... Even if you have no interest in cooking like they did 100+ years ago, it's a wonderful read. The authors are Hugo Ziemann and Mrs. F. L. Gillette, published in 1905 by The Saalfield Publishing Co. It is bound in white oilcloth. It measures 7- 1/2" wide by approx. 9, 590 pages plus illustrations & pictures. There is some soiling cover to cover.., but it's charming... as it's obvious these may be grease spatters and finger prints from the original owner. The binding is not perfect but not totally broken, but needs reglueing. The paper is somewhat yellowed, and is brittle. Given the book is over 100 years, I would say the vintage charm & personality of it, all things considered, is a true replica of a kitchen that was a working one, using the book. It's an interesting, feel good read and a true gem of a find for an avid collector.
