What Is The Best Way To Take Care Of An Old Rare Book?

Submitted by admin on June 28, 2009 – 2:06 am3 Comments

I'm planning to buy a first edition of "Things Fall Apart", and I want to know what do I need to do to keep it in pristine condition?

Get a good cover for it from brodart (they make nice stuff and I think you can still get a free sample pack). Keep it upright, don’t stack other books on top of it. Keep it out of direct sunlight. Then there are just a bunch of common sense things that you would probably do anyways. Without some sort of complicated system you probably won’t be able to keep it at the ‘ideal’ humidity or anything like that but with just the one book to worry about, it shouldn’t matter for a hundred years or so. Good luck.

I think you can buy special plastic book boxes to protect it when you put them on a shelf
